Not long ago the Brooklyn Chinese Association of New York City and friends would have a Chinese New Year parade on Eighth Ave. This event is fairly new to the neighborhood and I never made the effort to attend even though I live down the block. Each year the CNY celebration schedule would be different for me.

My street photographer friend Paulie wanted to do a Walkie Talkie session on me for his You Tube Channel and of course we made it happen. Let’s get to it. Welcome to Sunset Park, Brooklyn New York.

Paulie pulled up early on the day of the schedule parade on Eighth Ave. Sunday, January 29th 2023. We grabbed a quick coffee and bun to go from one of the many chinese bakeries. The vibes were different here in Brookyn’s Chinatown compared to the celebrations I’ve been to in Manhattan’s Chinatown. I felt the energy right away once we started walking down the ave from 60th street. The fireworks was so loud that we felt the bang in our chest. As a New Yorker from Chinatown you know a good fire cracker right away. We used to play with M-80’s all the time. Sticking them into the slot of the payphones that used to exist.

Everyone was really enjoying themselves. I never seen or felt this kind of energy on 8th ave before. People are usually out shopping for groceries and visiting the local family doctor. Kids was running around living their best life. Now that I think of it, adults and parents was having more fun then their kids.

I appreciate Paulie for taking time out of his schedule to come out to Sunset Park.
