“No Shoes”

There’s something breathtaking about Jackson Heights that keeps pulling me back here with my camera strapped around my neck ready to shoot. The feeling of the planes flying rapidly low above my head also sparks an energy like no other place in New York City. When I’m in the mood for some heart cooked meals from South Asia this is the closest taste to my imagination. I dream of traveling to these places they once called home.

When I am on an assignment like this one I enjoy taking my time by getting to know the people and their heritage. I usually start by making eye contact and let them know that I acknowledge and respect them, the camera around my neck can be intimidating at times. Street photography is a case by case scenario, I do what feels right at that very moment and most of the time I would just go with the flow. Most of the time people do not bother me as I believe there’s an unspoken language of arts through my style.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramanan. It’s one of the most important celebrations for Muslims across the world.
