As the Chinese New Year’s celebrations comes toward an end for the fifteen day rituals. Super Saturday in New York City’s Chinatown is a special event in which all Lion Dance Clubs would roam the streets in different routes to bless small business one final time for good luck and blessings.

Saturday February Fourth, Year of the Rabbit would be a day I would never forget. A day I’ll be able to reminisce through my photos I’ve captured. Following up with CNY’s eve I had manifested to spend more meaningful time with Tai Look Lion Dance. I had a slight idea of how the day would go ‘cause I’ve hung out with different lion dance groups from Chinatown in my younger days. This one would be different and special for me ‘cause of two factors. One would be the fact of spending the entire day with the group and two would be the weather. It was the coldest day of this winter, 2023. Also let’s not forget, my eye as a street photographer has changed due to continuous studies and time spent in the work field.

Two lions awakes by the sound of the drums and begin to move according to the different beats played by the drummer. The heart beat of the paired lion continues down two flights of narrow stairways onto the streets of East Broadway with the background sound of the train passing through the Manhattan Bridge.

The weather definitely played a role cause the streets wasn’t covered with confetti. If you been to Super Saturday in the past you know the vibes. I still had a great time even though both of my cameras was acting up toward the end of the route on Mott Street. Respectfully I know my Leica film camera well enough to shoot without the light meter working.

We returned to home base around five pm as Patrick and the team prepares for the final blessings. Three other lions awakes and join the last ceremony. The heart beat of the lions never stopped through out the entire journey.
